  • rogue car trader

keep this story brief= hi guys i purchased a car of a ebay car trader which was for sale with details such as replacement engine and new turbo and six months warranty plus 5 months tax. so i asked the trader what is replacement engine, ie= new or recon, trader mails back full recon mate not done many miles lovely car. So i drove the 75 miles to pick up car looked over it and test drove apart from a problem dealer pointed out and i excepted was air bag light was on. I realised there was no tax on vehicle at tthis point trader makes up excuse which stupidly i except.Im making this short but on way home every time i go round a roundabout i get oil light coming on so i ring trader backup tell him issue he states warranty with garage who fitted engine wait till monday ring them and they will sort problem, monday comes ring garage told where to go its nowt to do with them speak to trader who sold you car. This seems not right so i took to my garage to find out fault show them service book which stated new engine and turbo plus other work done, so they look at car 1st oil leaking from engine not being fitted correctly to gear box, 2nd severe damage to bolts within engine by shody mechanic 3rd engine is old block with original engine parts fitted.I made contact with trader who blamed garage and made out he wanted to sort problem but woul not refund my money or give date or time to fetch car. I now write to trader after advice from consumer rights, he responds by bragging go to trading standards they take years and in the meantime you have no car but i want to sort it. once again i email when you picking car up again no response. I now told 30 day letter pre court this time there is no response. This time i done much research into evidence i have and laws for car traders to follow, my options of court cost to me and how he could just not attend court and never pay a penny and still keep ripping us off, my next call to consumer rights i was ready and once they give me court avice i hit back saying no he broke 3 trading laws here i would sooner fight this with trading standards as so far they are refusing to help, there tune soon changed we nothing to do with trading standards we only pass info on and they are not interested in small single cases. So basically as long as trader only rips of few they dont care and turn blind eye to it.

Now i decided i wanted to here this from trading standards so with evidence i went to office and demanded to speak to someone,
    proof of evidence=

car trader and garage with working together to up value of vehicles by using service book
proof car trader sold car that not as stated in advert or emails
proof car was not sold fit for road use
with this evidence trading standards spokeman stated there not really doing anything due to goverment cut backs and court is your only option but its a lottery and will just cost you more money but he will pass info on to the traders area trading standards who might pay him a visit but probly not due to cut backs but ont worrie i will right him a letter if they dont, i left amased at what i was hearing but did recieve a call to say they will pop and see him but only for no tax and no warranty stated on advert and you will probly have to pay to sort the car yourself, so car traders can sell what ever they want guys and were the losers so jump in car trade and join them rippping us off and consumer fault for buying.

hi - i have recently been in the same situation. It my understanding that buying from a trader affords you full rights under the sale of goods act. From a private seller it would be under the misrepresentations act.
You know who they are and where, have the descriptions of the quality of the vehicle etc and should be able to act against them. Trading Standards should be taking the case on by the sound of it. Keep a record of what you have to spend on the car also so you can claim it back in court.

yeah got all documentsas proof but car trader also no's he can walk away not paying a penny to me a decent trader would have in 1st instance at least tried to sort problems, this 1 is that confident he cant be touched even though its clear him and garage are making car look higher in value than they are actually worth and cars are not roadworthy at time of sale plus ad desciption are out but he still getting away with it and trading standards still wont act on him so i really cant be bothered trying through courts and come out winning and still not getting a penny. Yet if it was a general member of public breaking the law it would be ball and chains out so wrong.
