  • Seal on car door is a leaking water would superglue fix it?

couldn't think where else to put this but it's raining cats and dogs and my car kinda leaks cos the passenger side door seal is loose. Would using some superglue to fix the seal, in all likelihood, stop the rain wetting the inside part of the car or not?

Please do not make me explain it more but I might be able to provide a photo if you need it

Your best bet if you can't just put the seal back is to buy some Sikaflex Sealant from a DIY shop (about £7 a tube) and a gun to use with it (about £3 from a cheap shop) and run a thin bead inside the seal, replace it, wipe off excess and leave to dry. This will hold it, and expands and contracts with heat so will last.

If you just want to stop water getting in for a short while and a cheap fix, Vaseline (or any cheap brand petroleum jelly) will stop most leaks on a temporary basis. I ran with this round the outside of part of my windscreen seal for over a year with zero water penetration.

Will that work for the seal that goes round the passenger side door?

If the seal is rubber superglue should fix it thats what superglue was originally made for

Sikaflex - yes, definitely. Vaseline is only temporary to smear over where the water is penetrating to make a seal. Once broken, obviously it needs re-smearing.

What about going to your nearest breakers yard and getting a seal off a scrap car

LOL - I'm so sorry for the state of this thread, leclerc. Wrong time of year to post 'leakage' threads, methinks.

I think Swifty's post is actually the bestest practical solution - but you might find that some K-Y Jelly might help when pushing the new door seal into place !!!

                          Been there - done that......

I think now might be an opportune moment to post some graphic detail, M. Leclerc.
