  • Clocked Car Misrepresentation.

Hi all, Im just after some advice with regards to a car i have purchased. I paid £4000 for a car last week, Had it HPI checked which came back fine. Stupidly i forgot to you could do the Vosa MOT check online. Got the car home and found out it had been clocked back by 80K. Now the warning bells were there and i should and normally would not have not bought the car. The main problem is that i have found out the seller is buying high mileage cars at auction and then clocking the cars and selling them for a profit. He advertised the car on autotrader stating a certain mileage which is vastly lower than what it has on it. I contacted the lease department of the company of who the car was registered to and they said they only got rid a few weeks ago and it got sold at auction. Basically he's bought it, not registered it to him and sold it on with a dodgy V5 signature. I was told by him that the car was registered to his own company and stupidly believed him. Shall i pursue it further? is there any point? I have been in contact with trading standards and they are saying to send a couple of letters stating the sales of goods act 1979 to the address i bought it from before they can act. I believe i may have found a real name for the guy involved but i just need it proving from the auction house and auto trader. They say they need the police to get involved in order to give his name.

I would follow Trading Standards' advice. They know what they're doing, and if they can get a criminal prosecution, they will. I am sure well before it gets to this stage you will be able to supply any information you have.

If this is proven, it is a serious offence.
