  • Car repairs....part fails after 3 months

Hi all, Last Sept my Landrover suffered massive suspension failure on the way to work. Had it recovered to a garage local to home (1.5 hours away) where, after many days, it was repaired, with genuine parts. £1,000 bill.

A month ago I was travelling down the M5 to work, when the whole suspension failed. A horrid experience. This time I had it towed to Landrover, local to work, who spent 3 days fixing the thing, which meant a hire car too. repair bill £861.
Went back to local garage and explained that either the parts had failed or repair wasn't up to scratch. I returned the parts to them.

A month later and they are saying that they have had a credit from landrover for the parts - £500, but they (Landrover) won't pay the labour for the second repair.
I've never had expeirence with claiming for repairs etc, so not sure where I stand, although i suspect that I should be pursuing comp from the local garage? Any advice please folks??

Your contract and thus your claim rests with the company which carried out the repair and has nothing to do with Land Rover, in spite of the fact that Land Rover parts were used.

Take a look at these threads for more information on what to do and if anything is unclear, or you would like help drafting the initial letter, come back and ask.

Although the final two threads concern complete cars, the principle is the same for parts. They should last and clearly they did not. The fact that the garage has had a refund from Land Rover should confirm that the parts were faulty and the garage are simply trying it on with you.

In short, you make a claim for all costs and expenses associated with this episode from the garage who supplied the parts and carried out the work the first time around.

Honey, you will need to start your own thread giving details as to the problems you have had with your car. That way this thread will not get hijacked which would result in confusion for the original posters issues, and for those advising the original poster.
