Hello,
I am looking for advice regarding a non-runner that has been taken out on a 4-year PCP agreement, with repair and maintenance cover from the dealership.
Date purchased: 06/2023
Date of engine failure: 04/2025
Vehicle Details: 2016 Ford Focus Zetec
Original purchase price: £9,499.00
This was the first time I've purchased a car on PCP, my entire life I've only bought cars with cash, so I was/am completely unaware of what my options are and how to navigate this. If I had known sooner I would have rejected the car straight away but was unaware this was an option.
Here is the breakdown history since I have purchased the car:
14/06/23 I have taken my car to the dealership garage and an appointment was made for 28/06/23 due to the amber Engine Maintenance Light (EML) showing on my dashboard.
13/07/23-04/08/23, the car was recovered by RAC and taken to dealership garage due to turbocharger failure.
16/08/23-15/09/23, the car required repairs again as issue with the turbocharger continued. On 01/09/23 I have attempted a car replacement but no vehicle fit the requirements, therefore, I gave another chance of repair, the car came back with a damaged tire.
08/02/24, The car went back to the dealership garage due to requiring repairs with the starter motor, I have no written confirmation of when I have when the vehicle was available for pickup. Following this repair, I noticed increased exhaust fumes, which two days later I returned to the garage for them to do a test-drive and advise everything is alright despite my believing that the repairs have been done wrong/carelessly.
20/04/25- Ongoing, the car has experienced head gasket failure and has not been yet repaired as I've been quoted £9,000 for the replacement of the engine (almost same price as original purchase price).
I have made both normal complaints to the dealership and financial services. Both have not upheld complaints (dealership did not respond properly, in fact).
Decided to attempt rejecting the vehicle on 24/07/2025 due to faulty goods with letter to financial services, they have not upheld, and I have forwarded this to the Financial Ombudsman.
31/12/2025, investigator of Financial Ombudsman decided not to uphold the complaint with the financial services, despite finding that the car was faulty at time of purchase.
What do I do now to get out of the PCP agreement and not paying thousands of pounds? I've already lost so much money on this, and I am still without a car.
-Should I issue my rejection letter to the dealership, and go to the Motor Ombudsman instead- considering I believe the repairs were incorrectly done?
-I am halfway through the agreement, should I try Voluntary Termination?
-Any other options?
TIA
