  • VT VWFS

Hi, I contacted VWFS on the 8th Jan via email and told them I wanted to VT my car, no response, so I phoned them on the 12th and they said they would send me out a pack but the conversation sounded like it was being processed there and then and that the pack was for information re. collection.

Fast forward a week and I call them as I have not received said pack or heard from car auction company, they state it was sent out but to an incorrect email (not the address they had on file for me). They resend it but omit to send the form for me to sign. I call them again and they send me a pdf which has nowhere for customer to sign, I have already responded via email answering the questions they had. In the meantime I find this forum and realise that I can terminate with immediate effect if I just send them a letter myself so I have done so today - via email and via a letter sent first class signed for. The letter is signed by me and dated today.

Now the question is, can I cancel my direct debit that is due on the 23rd January? I have seen you mention on other forums its best to wait 2 days but then it will be too late in my case? And the delay annoyingly is down to them having sent information to an email address they seemingly plucked out of thin air.

I am aware that their system will already be geared up to collect the payment so if I cancel on my end then it might appear as a missed payment at a later date on my credit file. However, am I right in thinking I could dispute that due to the contract being terminated 3 days before the payment was scheduled to be collected? I've already paid more than 50% of the total agreement so it's not money I owe them at the point contract is terminated (today). Any thoughts would be appreciated, thanks!

    Hi LA9610

    Welcome to LB

Why don't you email them, state that you are cancelling the direct debit as if you waited then it would be to late. Also add anything else you want to state in the email. Now if they cause issues / difficulties regards the cancellation / direct debit, then you raise a formal complaint, you have your email as evidence that they we informed. Once you get a final response / deadlock letter, if you aren't happy, then you can lodge a complaint with the Ombudsman.
