  • Replacing car parts

I have been told by the garage whos doing the bodyrepair on my car, it's not allowed to keep the parts coming off the car, due to the insurance company will pay for the repair. I was the non-fault party and the thrid party insurance company will sort this out. But. The parts on my car is still my property and they only pay for the new parts and the labour. So why can't i keep them? Are they right on this?

    Hi Welcome to LB

When a car is written off by the insurance company and the owner is paid the "pre-accident value" the damaged car then belongs to the insurance company and the company is free to do what it wants, usually selling it onto a salvage company
The same principle applies to car parts that are replaced following an accident where the insurance company pays the garage to repair the vehicle
