  • Work-based lease termination cover

    Good afternoon.

My girlfriend took out a car from her work car lease scheme (nhs), but then got offered a job elsewhere. She can't keep the car if she moves, so has to give it back early.

When she was looking in to the scheme one, of the things that gave her piece of mind and the comfort to go ahead with it is the website says, "Cover in case of redundancy or resignation." IT STILL SAYS THAT NOW!!

So she's called them up and says she's resigning and they've issued her a bill for £2400. She says she was covered and they said, "No. It's in your contract." She said that, regardless how much the contract states, it's literally in black and white on the website that she's covered. The guy didn't have a clue and went to check the website (whilst still on the phone to her) and came back saying, "Yes. It certainly looks like it says you're covered.... I'll have to get back to you."

It looks like the NHS Fleet company is the one saying she's covered. Lex Auto is the actual company issuing the fee.

My reading of it is that NHS fleet are selling Lex's contract under the pretense of having resignation cover and that my girlfriend absolutely should NOT have to pay the fee.

I'm just wondering if anyone here would care to back up my thoughts or if she's just losing regardless?

    Thank you.
