  • Car company pursuing money 2 years after VT settled

Hi there, I VT'd my car at the start of lockdown. I had paid over 50%, wrote the necessary letters, spoke to them over the phone disputing damage and excess mileage. They wrote to me stating there was nothing else owing, my agreement was ended and my credit file was updated to show nothing was owing.

Last week I received a demand for over £4k for a settlement fee. I have disputed this with them and raised a complaint which they are not upholding and they are still demanding payment. Unfortunately, I cannot find the letter they sent me stating nothing more was owed - we are currently having building work done and are living out of boxes. I have asked the company in question to send me all copies of previous correspondence. What else should I be doing and in the horrible event I cannot find the letter they sent me what can I do?
