  • Used car bought "as is"...

I am retired civil engineer then teacher on disability with numerous health issues. Small community, one small used car dealer. Bought a car for $3200. Then he called to say he did some extra things because he wants me to be safe. ( That I now have to pay for), car is $4000 now. Desperately trying to get out of my mold/mildew ridden apt. Car wreaks of mildew. I test drove, ran well. Only had overnight to back out, can't get a mechanic, had a friend do a quick go- over. Bought the car. Manager says he also has Masters and PHDs in his country. Wants to leave this unethical owner. Asks me to help him with resume. 1 month and transmission goes out. Owner says oh well, manager talks him into replacing. I want reputable place, owner says no way, his place. He says I'll get a year warranty and it will take 2 days. Took 3 weeks, lost my place to move to, when I asked for the receipt and warranty, he gave me a sheet of paper that said, "trans. Cash, $1400 " and I have to pay $750. Have it a couple more months and one wheel needs new bearings $350. ON THE WAY HOME, check engine light comes on. Codes are for emissions and purge valve. The car key (with a couple other keys that don't go to anything) were stolen. Cost $600 to get new ones. Month ago broke down, needs shocks, struts, new rack and pinion... I live here alone. I am divorced. Don't get much money and desperately need car. Kelly Blue is $3000. So far I ve spent $2000plus renting cars or taxis. Requires a minimum of $3000 more. I believe it has flood damage. This owner and manager have been conning, no, preying on people like me who can't afford a new car and also can't afford to take him to court. Lemon laws don't apply, I signed an "as is" but the story is the same for the past 10 years. There's GOT to be something that can be done. He is a criminal!

I’m assuming English is not your first language? Are you living in Britain?

It seems like you made a poor decision in buying a car that was unfit for purpose?

If you think he is a criminal, call the police.

This is a UK site so will not be able to get useful information for you. Sorry. In the UK this would be a straight handback and return of money.

      How about Better Business Bureau?
