  • Thinking Of VT

    Hi

I am in the process of considering a VT on my current car. This page and information has been very useful. What I wanted to ask was

    1) When do I cancel my direct debit. I am thinking of doing the VT on the 28th of the Month, but the next direct debit would be due on the 1st? Is it best to keep this Direct debit in place. The only reason I ask, is that I am potentially due to pick up new car on the 2nd.
    2) I plan on send the VT by email and post. Should I continue the tax and insurance until I have a response from the Car Finance company or cancel in all on the day I send the email.
    3) My annual Mileage was 12,000 a year, but I have only done 34,000 in 42 months. I'm guessing there is no ways they can claim excess mileage charges?

    Thanks in advance.

So you send the VT about the middle of the month but give them the effective date of 28th. I believe that is allowed but others will comment. That way you are not subject to the vagaries of the Christmas postal service or the company having a complete break over the holiday period.

If you VT why should you continue to pay them.

Thanks ostell. If I send it on say the 14th, would I still be allowed to use the car up until the 28th? Or would it in fact, mean that from the 14th I could not use the car? Just thinking of the xmas period and needing the car?

      Thanks.

So I have had my Termination accepted by RCI and they have agreed that I can cancel all Direct Debits. They have put the termination date as the 15th December (despite me requesting that it takes affect from the 29th).

The one query I had was that they have said that I can continue to use the car up to the point that it is inspected and collected? However, I'm sure that having read through the notes, the recommendation is that once the Termination is accepted, it is then best that the car is no longer used. ostell and R0b is this correct? Am I ok to continue using the car?

        Thanks
