  • Car on finance - Engine gone. Repairs cost more then cars worth. Help!

    Hello,

I am looking for advice. My 2012 Audi A4 broke down on route to our holiday. The car was towed back home. Before the journey I had the car fully serviced and MOT with new disc and pads etc.
Audi have inspected the car. It needs a full new engine at a cost of 8.5k!
I have paid over half of my car finance but still have 4k outstanding.
I also feel the car ( which was purchased Sep 2017 should of lasted alot longer than it has ?
Im at a lost with what to do. I can hand the car back but would be liable of the shortfall or i can lodge a complaint with my finance company under the consumer rights act.
    Any advice?

Why put a brand new engine in an 8 year old car?
    Source a second hand unit.

You could try a complaint that the vehicle was unsatisfactory as respects its durability, but IMO you would have problems proving it.
    what caused the engine failure?
what mileage has the car covered, and how much whilst in your possession?

Second-hand engine. £500 + £50 delivery, that is what we paid for ours, but all filters and oils changed + installing £1200. replacement mileage was 50,000, that you need to check.
