  • What should I expect from Vauxhall Finance (GMAC)?

    Hi,

I bought my car in March 2016 and VT'd it a few months ago. The car was assessed perfectly by the agent on collection and there was no damages and I quickly received an excess mileage bill for over £3,000.

I contested it all with the templates on here and that was rejected and the case got sent to their solicitor who contacted me and in turn received another appeal from me rejecting liability etc.

There has been no contact for over a month now and they've updated my credit file to settled with £0 balance. Does this mean it's over or should I expect to be taken to court or what?

    Thanks

Who is their solicitor acting on their behalf?

You might want to consider making a complaint to the Financial Ombudsman Services, they are currently reviewing their decisions with regards to excess mileage charges. It used to be the case that they would find in favour of the finance co. however since a County Court decision earlier this year held that excess mileage charges are not recoverable, they might change their approach.

take a look at the thread below for an update.

If you do make a complaint, then there is an updated letter on excess mileage that i''ve recently uploaded (link here). That letter essentially sets out your complaint and the reasons behind it so you should look to model the complaint based on that.

Complained to the FOS last month no word back yet, but got a letter from GMAC today stating my options at the end of the lease! Think their departments need to communicate better.

Has anyone got anything different out of the FOS recently? I got this letter but believe they've been sending it out for a while about VT cases and mileage

This is still ongoing - however I did receive a letter from the FOS last month saying that I'll get a final result or update letter within 3 months. Think this might be a standard letter though for a long ongoing case?

A positive update eventually after nearly two years!

I have received an email from the FOS that they've had discussions with GMAC and they have agreed to drop the excess mileage charges so I have nothing to pay.

Hopefully this will mean positive outcomes for similar cases.

Funnily enough I was about to go to ombudsman and they agreed to drop my charges as long as I hadn’t gone there…I wonder if this is related
