  • Mercedes trying to refund

When I was planning my VT i relased that I was 1500 short of the amount I needed to perform a VT (I had 1 £500 payment left to make) . On November 5th main a payment of 1500 to make sure I had paid the minumum VT amount, then on the 6th November mercedes received the VT Letter (by recrded mail.

Fast forward to today and they have emailed my saying that they they realised that I have over paid by nearly £1000 and would refund the over payment.

I have emailed them back saying that the agreement was voluntary terminated on the 6th November and on the date of the termaination I had paid the 50% required to VT (they have acknowldged via email that I had paid the 1500 on the 5th)

Are they trying to wriggle out of the VT? I assume I am correct in saying that the VT happened on the 6th (at which point I had paid the 50%). If they do subsequently refund me would this money be mine or should I put it aside to pay back to them?

    Cheers Ash.

You made an extra two months' payments. That £1000 would have entitled you to use the car for an additional two months without cost, IIUC. No doubt, you had your reasons, but you can understand why they are a bit confused.

I have no idea whether what you have done is effective.

So, my intial plan had been to trade the car in at the end of the finance and get another (as previous times). With this in mind I wan't overly bothered about the over milage charge (would have been about 3k) as previously they have always been fine with it on trade ins.

Fast forward towards the end of the agreement and having suffered over a year of shambolic service and por car build quality I decided that I would not be getting a new car from mercedes.

This left me to pay £1500 for the VT limit instead of having to chump up the milage charges at the end of the agreement, so it was more cost effective for me!
