  • Let down by Morrison's - Refunded/won

:tinysmile_cry_t: In November 2014 I received a parking notice from Parking Eye. I had overstayed my 2 hours in Morrisons car park in Brecon, Powys. I did not realise that the car park had been taken over by PE as the last time I used it a store attendant patrolled the car park. I put a pound coin in the machine and placed the ticket on the car which covered me for 2 hours, then I went shopping in Brecon. Before my 2 hours was up I returned to the car to move it but as the car park was only half full and there was no store attendant patrolling I put another ticket on the car to cover me for 2 more hours. A few weeks later I received the parking notice with a photograph of my car entering and leaving the car park which of course was over the 2 hours. I immediately googled up Parking Eye and all I read was to ignore it, they were just bullying tactics to frighten people into paying etc. I had another letter which I also ignored then in January a County Court Summons. I took the summons and 2 letters from PE into Morrison's and spoke to the Manager for her advice. She took the paperwork off me and reassured me that she would get it cancelled with Parking Eye and I thanked her, breathed a sigh of relief and forgot all about it. Then in February I received a County Court Judgement stating I must pay £185 (the original £85 plus £100 costs). I went back to speak to the manager in Morrison's and she said she must have been too late to do anything as it had already gone to Court (well she knew this as she had taken the Court Summons off me in January). I asked her for my paperwork back and she said she had destroyed it all as she thought the matter was closed. I waited in the store while she went off to sort things out with PE. After about 20 mins she returned looking pleased and said that it was all cancelled and that I would receive notification to that effect in the post. She said that she had spoken to PE head office and reassured me that the matter was settled. I am pleased that I had a witness to this for just under two weeks later I received another letter off PE stating that they had not received any correspondence in relation to the matter etc etc and therefore the full amount of £185 was now due. I immediately phoned the manager of Morrison's hoping that she would be able to sort it and reassure me but after speaking to PE again, she phoned me back to say that she had been unsuccessful in cancelling the fine. I was so upset I could hardly speak. I did phone her back next day and said that she had given me verbal reassurance in front of a witness that she had been successful in getting the whole thing cancelled and by her actions she had left me open to loss. I could not have dealt with the matter once she had destroyed the paper work including the Court Summons. She just said she had acted in good faith, no apology to me or any remorse for her actions. I had only four days left to pay the fine before it affected my credit rating so I immediately sent off a cheque, recorded delivery with a copy to the Court. Being a pensioner on a budget, it is a lot of money to lose and I now intend writing to Morrison's Head Office to see if I can claim the money back or at least the £100 added on because of the delay. I want to warn others that if a store manager says they have managed to cancel the fine, get something in writing and check with the Court that it's on record as being dealt with. I will let you know how I get on with Morrison's - any advice over a draft letter would be appreciated. Thanks.

It's actually pretty hard to do anything with regards the court claim in all honesty. The best approach is shaming Morrisons and hoping someone will reimburse the cost.

Papers, MP, twitter, facebook and make sure you pull no punches.

Thought I would update on my situation. After paying the £185 fine I have today received a 'refund' cheque in the post from Parking Eye for the full amount of £185. I am so thrilled and hope I am not just the only one who has been refunded.
