Parking Eye ticket

Hi I parked at Gatwick , had something to eat at a well known food chain with wife (who is disabled and had badge displayed) - didn't even realise there is a 60 min parking limit and there for apparently 85 mins - recd £100 parking fine can anyone help? Is this legal?
