  • Parking Charge Notice from private company. Wrong details on ticket.

First thing is I'm new here so I'd like to say hi to everybody!

I'm living in a block of flats. Have residential car park space and residential parking permit. On the 2nd of April I've parked my car and left it on this parking until 6th of April. When I was leaving my car permit was adhered to the windscreen, when I came back I've had PCN on the window and my permit was lying on the dashboard (adhesive probably let go because of humidity or temperature drop). I know I'm the one responsible for keeping the permit visible all the time but hey, it happens. I was even ready to pay the charge but I've found that vehicle registration number given on ticket is wrong (not just one digit) and vehicle make and model is wrong. What I'm curious about is shall I appeal and give them chance to trace me and have my details or just ignore the ticket with wrong details?
    Thanks!

    Hi and welcome.
If it was me.... I'd ignore it.
How are they going to trace you if they have recorded the wrong vehicle? Was it one of your neighbours' possibly?
Which company "manages " the parking?
If there ever was a follow up the advice would be "don't pay..appeal instead", and Mystery1, our resident expert would help drafting you letters etc

      Hi,
      Thanks for your answer.
They issued it for my car. I'm sure. My permit slipped to dashboard and car reg is similiar to my car (on the ticket they issued letter "G" instead of "6" and "A" instead of "J", the rest is fine) and in the make of the car they've put vehicle make: Toyota, vehicle model: Mazda...absurd. So I'm sure they've tried to issue a ticket for me. Problem is I don't know what to do now. Don't want to do too much so ignoring them looks like the best idea as they don't have any of my details. Just wrong reg number. My concern is what about the "photo evidence" they've probably made. I think it's not any evidence because photographs are too easy to edit and amend but I'd like to know other opinions. I've read so many forums so far and answers always looks like - "notice with wrong details is not proper notice. Ignore it". I'm just not sure how far this ignoring thing can take me...
oh, I've forgot. It's not police/council PCN. It's private company called Capital Carpark Control (even website looks dodgy. I've linked it). I've called them and just ask (without giving details) what should I do and they said - send details and copy of notice and we'll sort it out - which I understand as - we weill straight it up and you'll have to pay.

Do you mean I should just ignore it?

Wait for the notice to keeper. You currently have a notice to driver (it was on the car rather than via the post i'm assuming). NTK should arrive between 28 and 56 days from date of parking.

In the meantime read your lease and see what that says.

I don't think they will send anything by the post as they don't have my details (our block manager was giving us blank parking permits and we were filling them ourselves. Don't think they record anything). They just coming to our parking and checking if you have permit or not and if you don't have or like in my case you have but slipped to dashboard they're sticking you notice to the window. In my case notice is filled absurdly incorrect.

They'll apply to dvla for the registered keeper details. Of course if they took the wrong details they can't get that. They won't know who the driver was so they'd be stuck.

yeah, but they're doing photos now. Do you think they can ask DVLA for details having only photos? Don't think photos are solid evidence in anything...too easy to edit. And I don't think DVLA is giving details so easy...just because some dodgy private company have a photo of some car. I mean we have some data protection laws right?

They need reasonable cause to get your details. That costs £2.50.

Do you suggest I should sit and wait now? All in all it's theirs responsibility to fill papers properly. They have wrong details, ticket should be invalid right?
I'm trying to dodge paying because I have this parking permit and I've left car for couple of thays on the parking. Permit had to fell off and there is nothing I could do about it. Luckily attendant have made mistake (in fact more than one) when he/she was filling charge notice. It works in my favour I assume. I just don't want to over-do-it with letters to them or do anything that is unnecessary...

As you have taken this ticket with the wrong details off the car it make sense to me that they cannot claim anything from you its not your car they are claiming was parked wrongly without a permit

Yes, wait on the notice to keeper, if it arrives.

I'll do as you all said. I'll stay low for now. If they'll try and contact me I'll just send them copy of this notice informing them that I've never had a car with such a registration number and of this particular make (for them my car make is Toyota, model Mazda ;/) Thanks to all of you guys for helping me! I'll let you know as soon as I'll receive anything or something will change.
