  • MET Parking Services

    Hi All,

I recently got a MET parking charge whilst parked in Barns Elms Sports Centre car park for not parking in a bay. The car park was full so i just stuck it somewhere reasonable.

The charge is £100 or reduced to £60 if i pay within 14days.

My case it is slightly different to MacDonalds incidents posted so i just thought it worth asking how best to approach it?

    Advice/suggestions would be much appreciated

    Thanks,
    James

    Dear Sirs,

I, as registered keeper, wish to invoke your appeals procedure. The driver did not see any signs or markings which indicated no parking. In any event your charges are penal in nature and not a genuine pre estimate of loss.

I am under no statutory obligation to name the driver and will not do so.

If you reject my appeal please supply a popla code.

    Yours etc.

If they reject the appeal and give a popla code please return for a winning appeal.

Thanks M1. I will send them this and see what happens. Does it matter that it is a company car? - assuming i can still sign the letter off as me and include my address so should it come to it they can reply and give the Popla code?

      Thanks again

Well it depends if the company are quite happy to get any letters etc. If not best just say you were the driver and appeal on that basis. This gives less scope for errors on Mets part but hopefully we'll win anyway on genuine pre estimate of loss (at popla).

          Re: MET Parking Services

I forgot to mention as well that it is a hire car...
Not sure the company will want to use any resource on fighting my corner for £100, i will say i was driver so hopefully all correspondence will come to me.

Again appreciate your help with this M1.

            Re: MET Parking Services

There are extra considerations for keeper liability for hire cars, above the norm, so if you can deal with it on behalf of the company, you should.

Right ok. Well I can speak to my company and tell them i am dealing with a parking charge that's not an issue. But in terms of the letter to these guys does the below seem fit for purpose (just a slight change of wording)...
'I wish to invoke your appeals procedure. I did not see any signs or markings which indicated no parking. In any event your charges are penal in nature and not a genuine pre estimate of loss. If you reject my appeal please supply a popla code.'

If you use that you are effectively telling them you are the driver.
