• MET PArking fines POPLA codes

    Dear Sirs,

My mother has received 3 parking fines for attending Fairfield Leisure centre Dartford, Kent. She attends regularly to for keeping active and the pool facility. Recently they have installed a machine inside the building that you have to type in your registration to confirm you a Leisure centre user and allow the free parking. She has done this on all three occasions and on all three occasions it said you now have three hours free parking. So off she went to swim.

Several days later she had one fine then another then another. not only has she got one but a whole community of people have them. apparently there is a button no bigger than a thumb nail that after you have input your registration and it tells you, you now have three hours free parking you have to press which says your finished, if you don't press it, it doesn't register your car registration? this is madness!!

My mother had proof she attended the centre and was not overstaying it has a picture of her car coming in and out she was 1hour and 33 minutes so she appealed they rejected the appeal, on the back of the letter and this is the bit that is really upsetting her and may pensioners who attend the swimming class,

PEASE NOTE IF YOU APPEAL TO POPLA YOU WILL LOSE THE RIGHT TO PAY THE CHARGE AT A DISCOUNTED RATE OF £60 AND SHOULD POPLAS DECISION NOT GO IN YOUR FAVOUR YOU WILL BE REQUIRED TO PAY THE FULL AMOUNT AND SHOULD THE DECIDON NOT GO IN YOUR FAVOUR YOU WILL BE REQUIRED TO PAY THE FULL AMOUNT OF £100. BY LAW WE ARE ASLO REQUIRED TO INFORM YOU THAT THE OMBUDSMAN SERVICES PROVIDES AN ALTERNATIVE DISPUTE RESOLUTION SERVICE THAT WOULD BE COMPETANT TO DEAL WITH YOUR APPEAL. HOWEVER, WE HAVE CHOSEN NOT TO TAKE PART IN THIER ALTERNATIVE DISPUTE RESOLUTION SERVICE AS SUCH SHOULD YOU WISH TO APPEAL THEN YOU MUST DO SO TO POPLA.

One lady has 6 fines another has 9 my mother has three there 70+ years old and there really worried and upset what can we do they have not done anything wrong its free parking for the leisure centre they all registered the cars on the machine, since this time a set of instructions have been put on the box but for all these people that dint press finish what can they do?

sorry if this is in the wrong thread I

Go into the leisure centre and complain to the management and demand that they get the charges cancelled. The fact that they had to put up another label on the box would be taken as an admission that the process was not clear in the first place.

      As ostell says.

Also if they do not play ball then make sure they appeal each and every ticket to get a popla code. They would be advised to each write a witness statement stating they did enter their registration and make sure everyone has copies of everyone elses to submit with the popla appeal in order to give weight to th fact there was an issue. Also a picture of the sign would be good.
