Hi guys, I have a DVLA problem which looking through this site it seems that many people have had and have received some excellent advice so I'm hoping I can receive some too!
Well to start off I had a parking ticket issued by the city council, this went unpaid and got moved to debt collectors and the fine was raised to around £450. I was disputing this for a while until September of last year I was heading off to uni. My vehicle tax was due to run out 2 weeks after I started uni so I left the car at my old address and told the debt collectors to take it. They stopped bothering me so I assumed they took it.
They started contacting me earlier again this year saying they haven't received any payment and that they weren't the ones who took the car. The new tenant in the house I was living in (as I moved to go to university in a different city) forwarded me the requisition from the DVLA stating that the car was on the road untaxed but they didn't notice until January.
Due to the fact that I made suitable arrangements to get the car taken off the road before the tax ran out (although I'm unable to prove it as it was a phone call not in writing) will I still have to suffer the consequences, I'm an unemployed student so I don't think they'll get very far in court anyway but is there anything I can say or do to not have to go to court especially considering they've requested I go to a court in the town I was before I moved and it's not cheap to travel from where I am just for court.
Help please! Any help is appreciated, thank you.
