Hello,
I was hoping I could gain some advice regarding to tax on my car in Northern Ireland.
I bought a UK reg car in Northern Ireland (I live here) back in November 2014. On the day I bought the car I went straight to the post office and got it taxed, it came to £30 which has come out of my account.
I received a letter today from DVLA stating my car was parked unlicensed on my street on 6th January (last week). The fine is for £42 however I'm not sure what exactly the fine is for. I used the online check website to check and my car is Mot'd fine but says that tax ran out on the 18th of November the day before I taxed the car myself. How is it possible that they can fine me even though they took the money out of my account. They say that it didn't go through on their system but is that because I have a UK reg plate on it and it should have been UK tax I paid or should that even matter? I changed the vehicle into my name at the same time while I was in the post office which came through fine and still have the receipt for proof of payment for the tax paid here. Is there anything I can do? The fine is only £42 but I still son't fancy having to pay it when I had already taxed the car 6 weeks previously! Also does this still mean my car isn't taxed and I will be liable for more fines at this stage?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
