  • What should I do?

I recently took my girlfriend to Barnet general hospital, and bought a ticket. Previously no registration number was required. This time the machine asked me to enter my registration number, in error I entered just the number part, which is normally what is required in all the other car parks I use. I realised my error shortly after buying the ticket, but placed it on the dashboard as usual. We returned to the car later -no problems, and left.
I now have a PCN for £100 or £60 if paid within 14 days, saying I didn't purchase a ticket. Their ANPR cameras caught me entering/leaving, and obviously can't match up with my ticket. I have appealed to Parking Eye, but they stated I won't hear from them until after the 14 days are up. Do I pay the £60 and hope that I will get it back if I'm successful, or wait and pay £100 if I lose? I didn't keep the ticket as I didn't think there would be a problem.

Hi greeng00, and welcome to LB!
M1 (our resident parking expert ) always advises you to appeal the parking charge:

Appeal to parking eye who will probably reject it but in doing so you should get a popla appeal code which can be used to the desired effect.

    Dear Sirs,

I, as registered keeper, wish to invoke your appeals process. The driver did not see any signage and in any event your charges are penal and not a genuine pre estimate of loss.

I am under no statutory obligation to name the driver and will not be doing so.

Should you reject my appeal please supply a popla code.

    Yours etc

When the rejection comes back edit http://www.legalbeagles.info/forums/...-Appeal-Letter or http://www.legalbeagles.info/forums/...-Appeal-Letter to suit and it'll be all right on the night

In my opinion, the fact that you have been told that PE will not reply to your appeal letter until after the 14 days should not make a difference ... they sound like they're 'dragging their heels' in the hopes that you will pay the fine :tinysmile_twink_t2:
Personally I would wait for their reply and then continue with your appeal as per the quote from M1.
I'm sure you will get more advice from other knowledgeable Beagles soon!

They haven't lost anything so what would they expect to be paid? £0.

Wait and see what happens then all you have to pay then is what they have lost.

        Re: What should I do?

I'd alter the letter and send a copy of the ticket (keep the original safe). They usually cancel straight away then.

            Pay nothing.

Wait if you sent a copy of the ticket or email more info if you haven't.

I don't think they can do anything as I use machines like that every week and I always just put the first 2 letters and the number in ie xx09 and
i have never recived an invoice of the parking company's

Thanks for the advice. I do not have the ticket, all seemed OK when I left the car park, so there was no need to keep it. I did search all my waste bins though, but with no luck.

could you have sent it to PE in the appeal you mentioned in your first post??
