  • Help with unfair ParkingEye charge from Aldi - accused of 22-hour stay!

    Hi everyone,

I received a ParkingEye charge notice today for something that supposedly happened almost three weeks ago. The notice claims that I parked at my local Aldi on 2nd October and only left on 3rd October, meaning they think I was there for a total of 22 hours, which is completely false.

What actually happened is that I went to Aldi on the 2nd, did my shopping, and left. Then I went there again on the 3rd for another short visit. Somehow their cameras must have missed one of the entries/ exits and linked the two visits together.

I believe I paid cash on the 2nd (so I don't have an online transaction for that one), but I do have a card payment record on my bank statement for the 3rd. Unfortunately, my dashcam has already overwritten its footage since it's been almost three weeks.

Obviously, I did not stay in the car park for 22 hours – that's nonsense.

Can anyone please advise me on how to proceed?

Should I appeal directly to ParkingEye or go through Aldi? Any particular wording I should use?

Thanks in advance — this feels like a total scam and I’d appreciate any help on what steps to take next.

    Thanks

Contact aldi and ask for CCTV FOR THE DAY YOU PAID CASH

      classic case of double dipping
Could you please post up a photo of the charge notice (all pages) first deleting your name & address , vehicle reg. number, PCN reference number but leave in ALL dates & times)

Have you asked the manager of the store to have the charge cancelled?
If that fails contact Aldi's customer service with the same request

Is the Aldi car park locked overnight when the store is closed? If so is there CCTV of the car park that night which would show if your car was in it?

PallasAthena I believe, the car park is not closed and remains open.
wales01man They would probably say they can't due to GDPR regulations

              1. Make a Subject Access Request to Parking Eye.
              2. Gather any evidence you can that suggests it is unlikely that your car was left in the supermarket car park that long.

Just for future reference, I had my PCN cancelled, just by calling ALDI customer service and explaining the case. They then sent me an email from @cs.aldi.co.uk saying it has been cancelled.

Good news. Just one tip. Send the Aldi email to ParkingEye and get their written confirmation that they have cancelled their PCN.

I had problems with a private parking company [PPC] where the pub chain confirmed to the parking company that I was correctly parked and instructed them to cancel the PCN but the PPC ignored them and continued to pursue me! I got it sorted in the end and the PCN cancelled but it took me hours of my time and load of hassle I could have done without.

So the lesson I learned from that was don't rely on the car park owner telling you it is cancelled. Always get written confirmation from the PPC as well that they have in fact cancelled it.

And keep the paperwork confirming cancellation for 6 years 'just in case'.

PallasAthena Thanks for the great advice! I actually thought about doing that as well, but I didn’t have their email or any way to contact them. Which one did you use, please?
now I only have the email from aldi

It was a different company not parking eye but I had similar problems. Eventually I found the 'complaints' link on their website abd submitted it through there. You need to phrase it carefully though as they'll use any excuse to say it's not a complaint it's an appeal and won't be considered as a complaint. Look at their T&C, probably says can only be about their service or something so phrase it bring it within their criteria. So I submitted it along the lines 'this is not an appeal against the PCN as you have already been instructed by the car park owner to cancel the PCN, my complaint is that although you have received the instruction you have failed to confirm to me that you have acted on it and cancelled the PCN. I want this complaint resolved by getting your written confirmation that PCN number xxxxxx dated xx/xx/xxxx has been cancelled."
