  • Attempt to obtain a V5 from the DVLA

Looking for some advise. About ten years ago I put me late dads old Ford Escort into a local car restorers to be done up. We agreed that this would be done over a couple of years as I was on a tight budget. Some parts were sourced and sent there then I went to work abroad. I haven't heared from the garage in all the time up until today when I got a letter from the DVLA saying that someone had applied for the V5. They have told me they won't issue one yet and will give me time to sort it out but where do I stand legally as they say because they have possesion of the car they can be issued a V5 in their name.

The gargage have my email address and phone number but have never got in touch, we didn't discuss storage charges or agree that I would pay for storing it. The car is worth about £6000 and I think yhe're just trying it on to get hold of it. Were do I stand legally in getting the car back?

thats a long time to expect any garage to store and in effect insure your vehicle? What would happen had they had a fire or if it was stolen from their premises? you would expect for it to be replace I expect - I wonder what the outcome was?
