Penalty points expiration

Hi, was hoping someone could advise on something, I got 3 penalty points 19/11/19, so they would be due to expire this November, I was in a car accident we’re I was at fault just over three years ago now and was given 8 points. On my paper copy of my drivers license it shows date of conviction June 21 and date of offence March 19. Regarding the 3 years it stays on my licence, which date does it go by? Offence or conviction? Thanks
