I was told by a clinic that due to medical grounds I have to tell dvla that I can’t drive. They told me 3 months however I’m left with the paperwork to send of or get my lincence revoked. I’ve read that I would have to get my doctor a fitness to drive do they charge for this? I’m currently on maternity after having baby. So would I be exempt in paying a fitness to drive appointment or is it a letter they do? I’m not sure how long the process is to get a lincence back and it due to mental illness to why can’t drive bought on by birth. Has anyone else had this and did they get there licence back the the time scale stated ? Did u have to get a doctors fitness note and was it free?

I cannot comment on your particular reason as to why you cannot drive. I had a similar situation regarding eye sight and also a pacemaker.

I was put on a temporary license pending the outcomes of the above. I was sent to a local opticians for a specialist eye test which the DVLA paid for and hospital sorted out pacemaker issue, free of charge.

I cannot see why you would be charged by your GP. Any charges relating to 'fitness to drive' requested by DVLA I would assume are charged back to the DVLA and not you.

Edited to say, yes I got a full license back with no problems.

    Hope this helps.

You don't mention your particular medical condition.
Here's a link to a list, so check to see if the clinic (was that a doctor?) is correct
