  • Retain registration on car without MOT, Tax, or logbook

A friend wishes to take a private number off a vehicle to keep the number to use later. The car has been without MOT, tax for over 20 years and he can't find the logbook. The car is to be scrapped. What is the best procedure?

A vehicle has to be taxed and Mot'd to retain a registration number it also has to be registered at Dvla.
The log book is not a problem as long as its registered with Dvla you can get a copy for £26.
If the car is scrapped the number is lost.
I'm not sure if you can PM me but if you need further help get in touch and good luck.

I've made many enquiries into this previously, if the car isn't MOT'd then you can't assign a number plate (The original one) to it. Therefore the personalised plate on it will die with the car. Happened to me years ago. Very frustrating.
