  • Wrong reg number on insurance, twice!

    Hi all
I will try to keep it short.

I received a final steps notice from HMRC for a fine of £500. I thought it was a scam at 1st but discovered the issue after a few calls. I had been caught twice in the last 2 years for keeping a vehicle with no insurance and not sorn. I always pay everything by D/D and knew this was not the case. Upon a bit more digging i noticed the last letter of my reg number was different on my insurance!(same car/colour/engine). To make matters worse my V5 was in my old address so have had no knowledge of any wrongdoing.
I have now been to court to make a statuary declaration and had the final steps notice cancelled. The 2 cases have now been sent back to the 2 original courts for new hearings. The problem being is the 2 courts are 2 hours and 7 hours away from my home address.

I think to start with I need to know wether to contact the DVLA and see if it can be resolved before the court dates or wether i can get the original correspondence from when the offences where 1st brought to light so i can deal with it that way?
i already have letters of indemnity from my insurance companies to clarify my validity and explanation of the error.

    regards
    chevy
