  • who owns the car

we have a slight dilemma, father in law brought a car 18 months, we spoke to garage that confirm that he went in and paid cash for it, we have bank statements that prove he with drew the cash to buy the car, according to dvla he is the registered keeper of a vehicle, and the insurance company says the insurance was in his name, but the problem we got is since he passed away 3 weeks ago, a so called friend of his has now claims the car is hers, cos she has a invoice for the car in her name, seems father in law as was truck driver had the invoice written out to her address as she dealt with all his post while he was working away, now she claims the car is hers and has sent it to local garage to sell it for her, so the question is who owns the car?

Can the garage that sold the car trace their copy of the receipt?

In the meantime you could visit the dealers currently trying to sell the car and advise them that ownership is disputed.
No need to be confrontational, just a chat to see what they know.

Decide on the next move when you have as much info and back up as possible
