Did you only have 3rd party car insurance in your name, or was it fully comp?

I had my own fully comp on my own car but didn't read renewal properly where it said I would no longer be covered on other vehicles. As it was I was then driving my fiancées car unaware through lack of reading my new t's and c's

Hmm interesting. Every fully comprehensive insurance policy that am aware of entitles the policy holder (ie you) to drive other cars on a third party basis. Did you inform them previously that you were using your fiancée's car from time to time? If so, the insurance company would know (ie foreseeable) that problems would eventuate owing to these changes the terms and conditions.

You obviously haven't much experience of motor insurance.
It's been many years since the majority of comp policies allowed driving of other vehicles on third party basis.

Op admits renewal documents advised of change of policy.
Not foreseeable by insurers that important documents would not be read.

Well said des even in my fifties I had policies that excluded driving other cars,the OP accepts they had made a mistake for someone to come on here now trying to find they were insured makes no sense
