  • Impound holding my car with logbook in

So im not 100% im posting this in the right place, apologies if not. My friends car has been impounded, he stupidly put diesel in a petrol car. As they were on a dual carriageway the police would not allow them to stay with the car while the recovery truck turned up. They have now impounded the car and will not let them have it back until they are given the vin. This would all be fine but the logbook is in the car, so they have no way of proving to the impound that it is their car. Any help and advice would be much appreciated, it is costing them £20 a day on top of the £150 fee.....Thanks

Under which Traffic law did they impound the car?

You may find HALFORDS can supply the VIN number.
I understand they have a system which brings up all info of any (?) car if they bang in the reg number.
Probably any motor factor can do that.

The insurance Co can probably access the same data base.

Or you could try these peeps. They are in Ireland but claim access to UK data bases, but they do charge. http://www.cartell.ie/get-a-cartell-check/

Good luck, but as Wales asked "under what regulation was it retained".
