Garage Compensation

Hello, I need advice about a garage.

• My car was with them for 8 weeks before being moved to another garage.
• I had a courtesy car for 4 weeks but it was restricted to Cornwall. I told them I would be away for work and needed my car back for work.
• When I returned, I was left with no courtesy car option, even though I gave notice. They told me I had just 4 hours to arrange someone to collect it, which wasn’t possible.
• When my car was later due to be collected, they failed to tell me about an outstanding bill, so the collection was cancelled. I had to pay £50 extra for them to return another day.
• I have had to hire a car at my own expense which I cannot afford.
• I struggle with anxiety and asked for clear written communication, but this was ignored.
• Calls and emails were often dismissive or unanswered.

This has caused me stress, financial loss, and disruption.




What I want:

• Advice on compensation for car hire costs, the £50 fee, and loss of use of my vehicle.
• Whether to pursue this through small claims court or another route.

What you need to do initially is go through their Terms and Conditions.
Just because they have Terms and Conditions doesn't mean they are 'fair'.

Once you've done that, lodge a Formal Complaint in writing, follow their complaints procedure.

Have they got a Mediation Scheme or are they part of one?

Have you got legal expenses insurance in any of your policies?
