  • Bought a car with outstanding finance

Hi Guys, I recently purchased a car worth 3k with outstanding finance. I didn't think a car of this value would have finance left. I contacted the owner few days after had found out it had finance and he said he will ring up his finance company and clear the fund. He has failed to clear his funds and is now ignoring my messages and calls. I have evidence of the add which didn't mention anything of outstanding finance and his text messages which he stated he will ring the finance company. What should I do? Thanks

    Hi SAMAD1498

    Welcome to LB

I wouldn't be speaking to him over the phone or texting him.

Write a letter to him. Explain that he has sold you are car which has existing finance.

Tell him in the letter that he has 'misrepresented' the ownership of the car, that the car belongs to the finance company until the outstanding balance on the car has been paid. Tell that if the outstanding balance isn't paid by XX/XX/XX you will report the 'misrepresentation' to various entities and take any further action you deem fit.

    Get Proof of Purchase.

Did you carry out a vehicle check? That would have told you that the vehicle had outstanding finance.

How much is the outstanding balance?
