  • Halfords wrong advice.

My Daughter booked her car into Halfords for an oil top up last Friday but when she got there they said there was plenty of oil in the car. This morning she was driving her disabled Daughter to school and the engine Seized up.
The AA said there was no oil in it. Where does she stand regarding Halfords wrong diagnosis?.

    Hi
    Welcome to LB
A nationwide business such as Halfords Autocentres must legally provide reasonable care and skill under the Consumer Rights Act when carrying out a service for a consumer. Halfords should ensure their auto mechanics and technicians provide the care and skill expected of a properly trained, if not qualified, mechanic
Checking oil level and topping up with oil if required is a relatively simple job. Did your daughter see the engineer/technician remove the dipstick, wipe it clean, reinsert it and remove it again to check the oil level on the dipstick? Was the car parked in a level position?
I suspect Halford's advice that the oil level was okay was given verbally and not put in writing, and your daughter did not have to pay for the inspection. If this is the case it will be difficult to prove your daughter visited Halfords and even more difficult to prove the advice she received
