Hi all, my mother received a letter from trace debt recovery in the post this morning but has no idea what it’s about as she’s not received anything previously, I’m a bit unsure of if I should just pay it, as it says ‘pre action protocol’ any advice would be greatly appreciated.TIA

We need to see what it says. Please post up a copy of it here (paperclip icon top right of reply box).
Before posting remove/cover up your mother's name and address and anything else that could identify her, eg Trace's reference numbers. but leave in all dates.Last edited by PallasAthena; 27th April 2024, 12:25:PM.All opinions expressed are based on my personal experience. Please read the article "Trace Debt Recovery - Should You Pay" at www.moneynerd.co.uk
Does your mother remember receiving a parking ticket which she didn't pay or is aware she owes money?
The letter should not be ignored, but you should try to find out what the claimed debt relates to.
TDR's letter should state what the debt is for. If it doesn't you should contact TDR on your mother's behalf to find out.

The letter ought to give some indication of what it is about.Lawyer (solicitor) - retired from practice, now supervising solicitor in a university law clinic. I do not advise by private message.
Litigants in Person should download and read the Judiciary's handbook for litigants in person: https://www.judiciary.uk/wp-content/..._in_Person.pdf
