My insurance has written off my car (Non fault)

As stated, my car has been written of by my insurance company after a non fault, they are taking it to salvage on Monday (so I hope to get help before this) where it will be valued and I will be paid out but I have been advised to not let them take the Motor and to have an indepedant valuation done! Not having ever gone through this process... What is the process

Been through this situation, First completely UNDERVALUED our car, there was no chance of purchasing a replacement for what I was paid, taking the advice given, and getting it valued.

They do not always undevalue. I have had two write offs (not my fault) and teh payouts offered were adequte or better.
