  • major defects on MOT it not safe to drive. work say it is fine.

Hi I am hoping someone can give a bit of advice on this issue I have a work.
I am a delivery drive and we I drive a pool van so I am not the only person that drives it.
Someone before me note that one of the two revers lights was not working and the windscreen had large 10 inch or more crake in going from the edge of the windscreen up into the passenger’s field of view.
As both count as major defect and needs to be rectified. It is also an MOT failure, am I correct in thinking this?
Therefor if I was stopped by the police could I be prosecuted for these major defects?
I refused to drive the van and there was told there was nothing legal wrong with van.

Driving with a cracked windscreen can constitute the use of a motor vehicle in a dangerous condition which is a motoring offence
The law requires that windscreen glass should be maintained in a good condition, not just to allow the driver to have an unimpeded view, but also because it is (often) an integral part of the vehicle's construction as it adds structural rigidity to the car overall
Driving it could result in a fixed penalty of three points on your licence and a fine.

Reversing lights aren't part of MoT

      Thank you for the reply.

With reference to the reversing lights the law did change in 2018 to add some more new items and new rules on what is a fail and what is not.
So reversing lights are now part of the MOT
