Cancelled direct debit after issued a voluntary termination

good afternoon everyone update as follows
20.3.2020 sent vt by email and recorded delivery (they signed for letter 23.3.2020
I cancelled direct debit 25.3.2020 (a payment due 1.4.2020)
I spoke with the vehicle collections people yesterday 31.3.2020 to call me again 14.4.2020 all being well will arrange pick up
im now expecting to get lots of post from them because I cancelled the direct debit. will this affect my credit rating???? there saying I shouldn't have cancelled it *

I spoke to RCI today to VT my agreement. They said they would cancel the agreement when they receive my e-mail with signed document and cancel any payment collections. They advised me to also cancel my direct debit.
