Hope you can help. I was in my car in stationary traffic and was sending a text. (I know this is against the law - fully admit). I had a policeman behind me which at the time I didn't know as he was in his own car. When he came upto me my phone was already back in my bag however he said he had seen me texting whilst he was behind me. He said "I could put 6 points on your license and you can have a crash, put it away" and with that he walked off. I am seriously worried now, as although he didn't give me a ticket on the spot he has all my car details from my car reg. So could i still get a ticket in the post? Also, when he approached my car the phone was put away in my bag and not in sight. Will it be his word against mine? This has really shaken me up and 100% never having my phone out again, it's not worth the risk. you never know who is behind you.

My brother in law is a police traffic officer and while he says that even if he's not on duty he is obligated to stop or speak to people if he sees an offence being committed while he's off-duty. Was this guy in his uniform? Did he show you his ID? I wouldn't worry too much; you've learned your lesson and I don't think you'll hear anything. He said, 'I could put 6 points on your licence'. Not 'I will'...you should be ok
