  • Hit whilst parked. Left note. Sd will pay. Provided estimate will not provide details

Hello. Third party hit vehicle whilst parked in a hotel car park. Left a note with first name and mobile phone number. Have had a number of text exchanges which have all been positive. On providing information that the estimate is much more than originally expected they have stopped responding and Wont provide their insurance details.

evidence - note left on vehicle hand written used pen and paper from the hotel reception lobby
    - CCTV of area shows the vehicles but registration is not very clear. A subject access request also would only provide with the owners vehicle images not third party
    - first name and mobile phone number with a string of text messages confirming that third part hit vehicle apologising accepting fault and agreeing to pay for the damage.
Third party states Reluctant to use insurance due to increase in premiums
    - photos of the damage taken at the time of discovery
-a quote for repair for the damage
-there May be other cameras in the area however again the SAR issue would occur that I couldn’t request the third party details

    issues
report to police as failing to provide details?
have notified insurance company for notification only don’t want to make claim at this point as it would be fault.
Third party is asking for bank details to send money they estimate £1-200 estimate is much more than this hence wanting to go through insurance
Third party refusing to provide any more details to pursue through insurance company

    Any help much appreciated

Yes , I would report to police then probably make claim under my own policy depending on cost and excess.
That is what you pay insurance for.... why keep a dog and then bark yourself.

Certainly would be wary of providing bank details to an unknown third party

The issue is not having a fault claim. The third party are at fault and have admitted it

Obviously your choice and I was just saying how I would react.

It will depend on how much damage has been done and the chances of tracing the perpetrator.
You have little information by which to trace him, and I expect the police will treat it as low priority.

You do realise of course the fact you have been involved in an incident, although not making a claim, could affect your future premiums anyway.
So, depending on your insurer, perhaps you might as well make a non fault claim.
