    Hi. I have to do this as my husband has left and I can't afford it now. I will have paid just over half the total amount repayable on 1st of November so at what point should I contact finance company to state I have to VT?

    You can let them know now that you want to VT on the 1st November, start the process. Phone them and get the forms etc.

    Once the last payment made, cancel the DD straight away.
