My local council have issued a summons for £6500 which they claim I owe in council tax. While this seems a bit high to me, no doubt topped up with all sorts of charges, I cannot dispute this. I do not have the money (I do not have any money!) and cannot borrow it. Any money I get (I do not work, but am looking) goes on other things, like food. I have diabetes which, to be honest is not a huge problem but has led to depression. My wife, who earns little, has stage 3 cancer. I do not want her to have to go to court as the stress would really harm her. I simply do not have any means to pay. Bailiffs have called and have also phoned my parents and told neighbours I owe c.t. so I am reluctant to have to pay their costs. I am unsure what I can do. The council refused to pay housing benefit as I rent from my parents (which is also in arrears). Any suggestions?
