  • Council Tax shared with non occupant owner

    Hi all,
I have a very simple query about a council tax issue.

I am looking for a house in London and I found a decent accommodation from a private landlord.
He told me he would rent the flat with a regular contract but he also told me that we would have to split the council tax on the house as if he were still living there. He claimed that he needs to do that according to some pension cavil.

    Now,
I was a bit confused at the request as I have some doubts regarding the legality of the procedure and my entitlement to live in the flat by myself.
Would he be entitled to come in and out of the flat as if he were still leaving there?

Thank you for your thoughts on this, your contribution it is very much appreciated.

Sounds like some sort of scam to me. Are you sure he isn't sub-letting what may be a Council flat while collecting Housing/Council tax benefit as well. In my book be very wary.

Uhm... that's what I thought, some way not to declare the gains from the rent. I might just avoid this one this time.

Thank you very much for your help!!!
