Warwick District Council took me to court last November and obtained liability orders for various years. On Christmas Eve they issued new bills for some of those years and today issued more summonses - exactly the same as the ones they issued in November. The ones issued in November were exactly the same as ones issued earlier in the year and despite the fact I went to court and told the magistrates this, they still issued more liability orders. The fact that there is no piece of paer with a record of what orders are issued means this whole thing is turning into a complete fiasco with costs being added twice or even three times for the same periods of time. What on earth do I do?

Involvement of Local Councillors, and your MP may be a good option at this juncture, along with a Formal Complaint to CEO and Elected leader, also copied to MP regarding their multiple liability Orders for the exact same debt they already hold orders for thereby doubling the costs. Are Warwick Council so short of cash they want to double charge Council Tax, as in two identical bills for the same year both payable or else?

Write to your council and say you wish to COMPLAIN because they have issued Liability Orders several times for the same debt. Ask them to clarify the situation bey sending you a complete list of all your council tax arrears, showing the tax year each debt relates to, whether a liability order has been issued and what costs have been added on.

If you are correct, then they will realise what has happened when they try to compile the list.

In the meanwhile, it sounds as though you do indeed have outstanding council tax arrears for two or more years. Do you have a plan to deal with these? Do you have other debts?
