I am having a lot of trouble with Mendip District Council over my council tax. I really do not know where to begin as I have so much paperwork relating to so many so called cases dating back 3 years or so I dont know where to begin. I have attended court on 3 occasions this year and am no wiser now than before I went to court. 1 Occasion the magistrate dismissed the case. I thought that was the end of it but then I got more summonses. I went to both and never actually saw the magistrate due to their fuk ups. They agree they still owe me for outof pocket expenses and I have that in black and white, but now they have sent another letter relating to figures that are totally differrent to all my others. It seems to me like they just plick numbers out of thin air and definitely confuse the hell out of me. I have tried writing to them asking for documentation proving I owe the debt but have been met with a letter to say I am on the wrong track. If there is anyone who can help me then I would be very grateful.

Re: Mendip District Council Tax nightmare
This is probably what has confuddled everything. The nature of my work on agency means I sign on and off so many times a year it is mental. Its almost not worth me claiming anything when there is no work because of all the hassles involved. For example I had literally no fewer than 20 council tax bills for period 12/13. Im already at stupid amount this year and it still isn't over. The system they use just makes it impossible to know where you are and how to keep up with it. I could of claimed for a few peanuts towards my bill the last few months but I couldn't be arsed to keep signing on any more because its not worth the effort. I'm going to be claiming again now as my work has again finished. So I can expect more council tax letters because i only signed two weeks ago for 3 days. I'm desperate for help. Im so tempted to follow Steven Barry's route and blow the magistrate out of court but am not quite feeling strong enough to stand up to em.

Re: Mendip District Council Tax nightmare
Your case is prima facie evidence that agency workers and people on zero hours contracts are seriously disadvantaged and it may be worth writing to your MP regarding how the system is stacked against you, in the meantime I know it is messy, but gather and collate all those letters and go though them to see if you can arrive at a meaningful figure, then ask the council precisely how much is on the liability order, and how they calculated the figure. You may need to initiate the council complaint procedure and copy in the CEO, leader, ward councillor and MP.
