  • Liabilty Order

I have rented out a 2 bed apartment for many years as a flatshare to two separate tenants and they have always shared and paid the Council Tax. I have recently been billed for Council Tax and the Council have suddenly classed the property as a HMO and state I'm liable for the Council Tax and have issued a Liability Order from last year. What is my position now to defend such actions?

    Hi mcg,

According to GOv.UK, an HMO is where there are 3 or more tenants forming a household.

Council Tax terms for a HMO sadly differ.
