Did your £325 payment to the council include the court costs? Do you know how much they were and how the charges were made up?

I've looked to find out how much Exeter City Council charge for these. You can find this out for many councils, but it appears Exeter keep this closely guarded, I can't find any details.

If they are unpaid like Equita are saying, your case will need looking at from a different angle but as ploddertom has stated, Bailiffs lie and I also agree the council are unlikely to return your payment.

Meanwhile of course, do not contact the bailiffs. Whatever the council say, you do not have to have anything at all to do with the bailiffs, so don't. You will only open yourself up for a whole load of other fees which will suit the council fine. Follow PT's advice!

I know never to talk to debt collectors or bailiffs normally but
I had to tell the bailiff something as my daughter is on holiday from this week and i didnt want them frightening her. Ive already asked for the breakdown of all the charges as i laughed when she said it had now gone up to 700.
The 498 in the original letter i thought was the court costs and their fees but apparently not.
I'm ready for a fight,they prob think that oh she's a single mum with 2 kids so she will fold easily but i wont!

Although you should only do this as a last resort, you can refer a bailiff's account to a County Court Registrar for scrutiny should you feel it is excessive or you suspect they have charged fees not permitted under relevant legislation. The Registrar can and has the power to notify a bailiff's certificating court in cases where fees are found to be excessive or are fraudulent.

Did you ask for the breakdown of fees verbally or in writing? You need ideally to do it in writing.

I asked for the breakdown of the charges in writing as the last letter I had showed I owed 498, that was including the 325 from the council tax,But its not turned up yet.
