Re: I think I might have seen it all now
With one local authority I have lived in, I went to the council tax office with a receipt in one hand and a summons in the other, and asked them if they would like me to bring both to court the following day, or if they would like to sort it out - as I had already paid in full.

Re: I think I might have seen it all now
Years ago I had letters from the Council threatening all sorts, court, bailiffs, etc for an unpaid balance of £0.00.
It wasn't until I turned up at their cashiers counter with a cheque made out for £0.00 that they admitted it was an error and sorted it.

Re: I think I might have seen it all now
I had a similar event last year when they could not get my bill right due to being on DLA over the course of the year I had 6 bills all for differing amounts.
I was totally confused by this and paid what I thought was right basing it on the previous years bill.
I had liability order costs added and then bailiffs fees all I ****ing wanted was a correct bill lol
This year I get a bill that was -£244 yup I had over paid and never did get those fees back.If you think nobody cares if you're alive, try missing a couple of payments.

When you got the summons, book the day off, enjoyed your day out, and then counterclaimed your costs (including the cost of taking a day off work) and give them a real good spanking.
Surely there could have been some harrassment claim you could have made too.
