Sorry I am looking for evidence of my residence 10 years ago in support of an appeal against council tax arrears.

Council tax appeal process

Hi Guys
Long time no speaky, anyway despite my growing hope that the council may have given up on my case (see previous posts here) I received a letter refusing my claims of non-liability and asking for payment.

My next step is to go to appeal and I have compiled as much evidence as possible to prove I lived at a different address for the period they say I am liable. This consists of:

Solicitors letters sent to me at my parents address

Bank system fiches showing continuous residence at my parents.

A letter from the DVLC confirming that my driving licence has been registered at my parents since 1992 and not changed since.

A sworn affadavit from my parents that I was resident with them and paying rent.

I am taking this evidence to the council tomorrow with an accompanying letter.

Really I would like some advice on the appeals process and any other advice comments etc. Arguing that I was living ealsewhere and paying council tax is my last defence.

Any thoughts?

Appeal procedure and payment

Hi all
Just had a conversation with a council employee asking about the appeals process just to suss out what their line was.

Apparently the process is Dispute-Appeal-second appeal etc....

Apparently my current status is recorded as an appeal but as far as i can see it should be just at the dispute stage. My next contact with the council will be an appeal.

I think I am right in assuming that any payment made relating to the debt at the time of dispute could be seen as admission of the whole debt. The person I spoke to said I was required by law to pay the arrears even in appeal and if I won the appeal I would be reimbursed. Can anyone clear this up for me before I go to the council tomorrow.

willboy, I've merged your threads to keep things in order.
Certainly sounds like you are having fun and games with the council.

Have you considered getting the Chief Exec involved with this. It's surprising how fast things happen when they get wind of matters.

For sure, especially as it was from so long ago.
Well worth the price of a stamp, but to be honest I'd be inclined to hand deliver anything, least you know they have received it.

Thanks I have written said letter and will hand it in today.

On the other issue though of whether I have to start paying even if in appeal could anyone confirm this is the case or not.
