Council Tax while stranded out of UK due to COVID

Hi,

Last year, I together with my whole family we were stranded out of UK for 5 months due to covid19 situation and couldn't get a flight back to UK. Due we still have to pay CT for our flat? I requested an exemption but Slough borough council refused to give us any exemption.

I'm not aware of any councils providing rebates due to Covid19 for those circumstances. What you could do is get a final response / deadlock letter, then make a complaint to the LGO, see where that takes you. You could also canvass your MP.

Thanks for your response. Our MP is as much useless as our borough council is but I will check with LGO.

Can you provide any more information relating to why you were unable to return to the U.K. to occupy your home? I’m assuming your flat is your “main home”?

Were you unable to return due to personal circumstance or we’re you prohibited from returning as a direct result of any of any of the Emergencies Powers (Laws) brought about by Coronavirus in the U.K.?
